CED Certificate Program Offered

The South Carolina Association of CDCs, in partnership with Benedict College and Clemson University have created the Community Economic Development Certificate Program. The Certificate Program offers a unique opportunity for practitioners to gain technical skills and increase their capacity to plan and implement a variety of projects and sustain organizationally sound community development institutions. It is designed to incorporate and build on the diverse experiences of emerging and mature community based organizations throughout the state. The Certificate Program instructors will use lectures, case studies, small group work, individual presentations, and simulation exercieses.
To obtain the certificate each student must complete 65 hours of class work and successfully design a realistic project that can be implemented in the student’s home community. The program will consist of four three-day sessions, with the fourth session devoted to the student presentation and critque of projects. Sessions will be held once a month over a four month period. The first session will take place November 14 - 16, 2006 at the White Oak Conference and Retreat Center. The center is located 37 miles north of Columbia and 60 miles south of Charlotte, 8 miles off Interstate 77 at exit 46.
The CED Certificate program is being offered at a cost of $495.00 per participant per session, which includes the cost of the instruction, all training materials, food and lodging. Application and fees must be received no later than November 7, 2006. The fee of $1,980.00 for all four sessions can be paid in installments. A limited number of scholarships are available.
