Lunch With State Politicians Huge Success!

South Carolina CDCs have been making great gains since the late 1990s when the state industry began to flourish. The SC General Assembly honored this progress in 2000 when it passed the Community Economic Development Act, which pledged $1 million to state CDCs each year for five years. The funds would provide these groups the resources they need to give more middle and low-income South Carolinians safe housing, financial literacy training, and other services. The legislature has yet to fund the Act, but the SCACDC thinks that could change this year.

W.K. Kellogg Foundation Invests in South Carolina CDCs

The South Carolina Association of Community Development Corporations (SCACDC) was recently awarded a $200,000 grant from the W.K. Kellogg Foundation of Battle Creek, Michigan to build the capacity of rural communities in South Carolina to create changes in systems that will improve the quality of life for its citizens.

The grant funds will be used to assist grassroots leaders in South Carolina developing the capacity to impact state policies affecting the use of federal funds in the state and to develop a rural philanthropic movement that capitalizes on the existing assets in rural communities. A portion of the grant will also be used to develop a rural workforce/entrepreneurial development strategy by establishing collaborative urban/rural dialogues.
