House Appropriations Update
June 21st, 2005
On June 15th, the House Appropriations subcommittee with jurisdiction over HUD programs approved a proposed appropriations bill for FY06. The full committee is scheduled to consider the bill on June 21. It is likely that the bill will be considered on the House floor in the last week of June.
The subcommittee bill would restore funding for many HUD programs targeted for cuts in the Administration’s budget and keep the Community Development Block Grant program at HUD. But the bill provides less funding than the Administration requested for a number of key programs, including housing vouchers and homeless programs. The program highlights below are based on the committee report; the bill language is not yet available.
