The Community Development Certificate Consortium (CDCC) is a joint venture between the Clemson Institute for Economic and Community Development, Benedict College Division of Community Development to offer a certificate-bearing comprehensive training program for local community development practitioners, policy makers, and partners who support community development. Through a focus on topics that are essential to the successful functioning of community development practitioners, this certificate program will increase the capacity of individuals and by extension their organizations.

The CDCC offers a unique opportunity for practitioners to gain technical skills and increase their capacity to plan and implement a variety of projects and sustain organizationally sound community development institutions. It is designed to incorporate and build on the diverse experiences of emerging and mature community based organizations throughout the state.

Curriculum
The certificate program instructors will use lectures, case studies, small group work, individual presentations, and simulation exercises. The curriculum covers the following courses:

Community Organizing and Stategic Visioning
Leadership Development
Legal Structures
Fundraising, Development, and Sustainability
Community Development and Public Policy
Visibility, Authenticity and Image
Developing Community Development Projects
Building Capacity of Community Development Organizations

Instructors

Courses will be taught by faculty from Benedict College and Clemson University, as well as professional practioners/trainers.

Certificate Program
To obtain the certificate each student must complete 65 hours of class work and successfully design a realistic project that can be implemented in the sudents' home community. A 17-hour fourth session will be deveoted to student presentations and critique of projects. The program will consist of four three-day sessions. Sessions will be held once a month over a four month period. To receive the certificate a student must successfully complete the 65 hours of cours work and a project presentation.

What is the Cost?

The Community Development Certificate program is being offered at a cost of $495.00 per participant per session. This includes the cost of instruction, all training materials, food and lodging. Applications and fees must received not later than November 7, 2006. The fee of $1,980.00 can be paid in installments. A limited number of scholarships are available.

How will my organization benefit?

The certificate program will enhance the knowledge and skills of community development practioners, thus increasing "in house" technical capacity to developm, package, and manage a variety of community development initiatives.
